Our Philosophy
We started Seamonster with the goal of creating an agency that caters not only to our clients’ needs, but more importantly directly to the needs of their customers, partners, and readers. Too often, we see an approach that either favors the trendy at the expense of the usable, too narrow of a focus resulting from poor research and understanding, or a tertiary understanding of end users instead of an expansive and all encompassing one.
Seamonster puts human-to-human connection at the forefront of every project, from how we interact with clients to the digital and strategic work we produce.
Our Team
Sheena Smith
CEO & Co-founder
Sheena hails from Seattle, Washington, where she completed an undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Political Science at the University of Washington (and frankly skipped a lot of school to go skiing). She began her career at Publicis in the West as a production assistant, where she eventually led print production for clients like T-Mobile, Hewlett-Packard, Ben Bridge Jewelers, and KEXP radio. She moved to Chicago in 2009 to pursue a Master’s in English Literature at DePaul University.
With over 15 years in advertising, sales, marketing, production, and client management experience, Sheena is hyper-focused on innovative program design and delivering top quality results. Her client-first mindset leads to collaborative and engaging programming, especially in the B2B area.
Her favorite work is designing closed-loop marketing and sales pipeline strategy, honing in on the right content to provide at what stage in the cycle and helping marketing and sales teams “think like the consumer.” She is known for questioning traditional processes for exceptional results.
Likes:
’60s soul music on original 45s, flaky sea salt, hot yoga, listening to yacht rock while wearing Breton stripes, humbly taking credit while saying “no really, it was YOU guys”
Dislikes:
the term “low-hanging fruit” in a business context, when people chew ice at the movie theater
Would most like to meet:
She’d like to share a bottle (or two, or three) of Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge with Jim Harrison
The topic she could discuss for hours on end:
Wine, specifically “real” wine (organically grown with zero additives in the cellar). Her dream is to retire to a vineyard, where she’d wear welly boots and a Barbour coat, tromping around the vines on a precocious horse named Jim, surrounded by a pack of loyal and trusted dogs.
Jason Smith
President & Co-founder
Jason spent his formative years bouncing around the state of Missouri, finally graduating from the University of Missouri. From there, he moved to Chicago where he worked for five years in the publishing industry before moving into the agency world. Over ten years, he worked for various creative agencies, building website, apps, branding, etc. for a bunch of different people, places, and things.
